Much Too Young

How old would ya be if ya didn’t know
How old you were today
How old would ya be, if you could choose
A year of memories to replay
Well I’d be 17

I remember 17 like it was yesterday
The Temps & Tops, Gladys and the Pips
The O’Jays and Marvin Gaye
Half past 10 any Saturday night
Hangin in the backroom at the Scene
All my showbiz friends, after curtain calls
Keep me dancing till a quarter to three

How old would ya be, if you could choose
A year of memories to replay

Well maybe 23
23 I’m out on my own
Not much to my name
Hitchin rides from coast to coast
Exploring the USA
At 23, call me wild and free
No family yet to raise
Panama Red, hot summer music nights
Up the coast in Monterey

How old would ya be if you didn’t know
How old you were today

I know I’m much too young to be this old
Age ain’t for the faint of heart
Some aches and pains but your point of view
Is the key to keep you young at heart

Maybe I’d be 43
Not yet mellowed out, so many moments
Passed under the bridge
Thank the Lord good fortune came my way
The best was raisin a kid

I got to see, taste, smell the world
From Singapore to Marakesh
Now lookin back at 43
So many wonders I’ll never forget

How old would ya be
If ya didn’t have a clue today
