Simple Things
Can’t help thinkin about
who I used to be
Driven by blind ambition
that takes, never gives
Cause the more you have
the more you think you need
Everything ripe for the taking
all the fortunes in the making
I coulda been born
in a shelter
or a castle
overlooking the sea
But, all come to know
some fast, some slow
money may serve some needs
but the simple things in life
are free
Been thinkin bout
all the bittersweet days
I heeded every calling
had to live and learn
by falling
Chasin everything I thought was cool
in the land of milk and honey
where the
love of money rules
I coulda been born to a pauper
I coulda been born
to a king
All come to know some fast, some slow
Money may serve some needs
but the simple things in life
are free
Like the charm of a crescent moon
in a twilight sky
or the whisper of a cool
summer breeze
rainbows, waterfalls and hummingbirds
and long walks barefoot on a beach
and a million more delights
in reach
Been lookin back at
a full life lived
what I took out and now,
what I wanna give
A helping hand, a smile
a tender kiss
time sure takes its’ sweet time
showin us how to live
I coulda been born
to a pauper
coulda been born to a King
all come to know
some fast, some slow
money might fill some needs
But try as we might
to take a bigger bite
in your time
you’re gonna believe
that the simple things in life
are free
