The Knackman
My dog and I went walking
through the park one day
October sugar maples were in full display
and on that chilly morning
fate lends a hand
and leads us
to a very special man
Old man Jim, had no kin
but he paid no mind
to what might have been
Named the Knick knack man
cause he sure had the knack
made up fun and games
that stopped em in their tracks
This ole man, he played one
he played knick knack on my thumb
Knick knack paddywhack
tossed my pup a bone
did a little jig and a tune
as he rolled back home

This ole man now
he played two
he played knickknack on my shoe

he bounced a little puppy dog
on his knee

Everyone was welcome
in his heart and home
That day, he got a little tired
as he made his way back home
Jim lay down by the fire
to take a rest and warm his bones
As he drifted into dream land
an angel came to say
precious Jim with the mile wide grin
Your new life starts today
Soul man Jim, now he plays eight
but now he plays on the pearly gates
Knick knick knack paddy whack
tossin dogs their bones
soul man Jim was
right at home
The folks from town and all around
came to pay respects
with tears and frowns
for the knick knack man who threw their dogs a bone
cause everyone was family
though he lived alone
Then the townsfolks bowed their heads
but a child began to sing
then some puppies got to howlin
all the frowns turned into grins
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
That night everybody partied
everybody sang
happy tails and feet
dancin in the street
to celebrate the Knick Knack man
And when the dawn revealed a new day
the townsfolk made their way home
bearhugs and smiles for a good long while
and he promise to stay in touch
Everybody’s gonna miss the Knackman
the songs, the fun and the games
and I never will forget
the morning that we met
cause it feels like yesterday
when my dog and I went
walking through the park
that day
