American Dreamer

I was born down south of the border
Where a midwife delivered me
Mama raised the kids as best she could
While Papa worked
In the USA

When I was two, we made a journey
We travelled both day & night
Papa got us over the border
And so began a better life

well, I got no papers for this place
I got no papers at all
but, when I turned ten
They promised me then
You’re safe in your new home

Cause I’m a Real American Dreamer
Raised in the USA
Red white and blue
Is all I ever knew
That’s the way I want it to stay

My brother joined the US navy
Papa works a graveyard shift
Mama watches kids for the neighbors
My sister got a scholarship

I’m in my final year of high school
but, I don’t know where I stand
While all my friends are off to college
I’m in limbo in my own land

Well I know, I know, I know ,I know
We’re the kind some folks can’t abide
but, there’s gotta be a way that we can stay
And make our mark as we live and die

 I’m a real American dreamer
Raised in the USA
Red white and blue is all I ever knew
That’s the way I want it to stay

Now I know, I know, I know, I know
We’re the kind some can’t abide
but, there’s gotta be a way
That we can stay and make a mark
As we live and die

I’m a real American Dreamer
Raised in the USA
Red white and blue is all I ever knew
And now some wanna
Push me away

I’m a real American Dreamer
Raised in the USA
Red white and blue is all I ever knew
Now some wanna push me away

I’m an AMERICAN DREAMER
